We were commissioned to create extra space and rationalise the existing layout by designing an extension to this beautiful modernist home in West Kirby, Wirral.
A busy and lively family of 5 with 3 children, work from home parents and several sporting interests, we worked with them to create a solution that would enable the dwelling to work for their needs as well as give them their much needed extra space.
Originally part of a small private development designed in the 1960’s by Professor Robert Gardner Medwin, this particular modernist home in Wirral had undergone several rounds of alterations and changes over the years.
Some of these were more successful than others, however with our design we we wanted to be sympathetic to the original ethos of the design as well as take the opportunity to reinstate the modernist feel and lose some of the more unsympathetic previous alterations.
With Amazing views over the Dee Estuary and a sleek modernist form, we had lots to work with and were able to enhance this property with a simple two storey extension, a relocated and more dominant main entrance and some internal alterations to provide a master suite, an extra bedroom and additional accommodation downstairs to include a much needed large utility room with cloaks storage, a new family lounge and a private study space.
